For organizations and communities, bringing people together in constructive dialogue is essential to advance projects and build connections. Making these gatherings or meetings as productive, effective and efficient as possible increases productivity, improves decision-making, and enhances the sense of group membership.
This skills lab will help students increase their comfort and skill facilitating groups and meetings – of any audience size. Build your awareness of models, processes, and interactive activities that can be applied to group dialogue and meetings. Students will gain strategies for giving directions to a group, developing facilitation activities related to their identified topic, and managing various responses to activities. Students will also learn how to support or guide a group towards decision making, ideation, or dialogue in meeting spaces. Finally, we will examine techniques that can be leveraged to create connection between the group and the facilitator and among the members of the group. The skills and practice methods are applicable in multiple settings and relevant to gathering stakeholder input, community organizing, strategic planning, project evaluation, staff retreats, and policy development.
Class size is limited to 20.

This class will include both degree-seeking graduate students and practicing professionals. Individuals registering through Professional Development will receive continuing education units - but not academic credit - for the class.
